"Nearly 50 Congress party workers, including its district president Tripti Awasthi, were booked today (Saturday) for making the government officials wear bangles to register their protest," Lakhimpur Kheri Superintendent of Police S R S. Aditya said on telephone.
Angry over the erratic power supply in the district, Awasthi and her supporters on Friday barged into the office of executive engineer R S Gautam and forced him and other officials there to wear bangles, police said.
During the process, the Congress workers also resorted to vandalism and also threatened to continue their protest in the same manner if frequent power cuts continue.
Lakhimpur Kheri is about 120 km from Lucknow.
