A MAN allegedly murdered his wife in Purana Shiv Nagar near Piplani on Wednesday. The accused, Harilal, 37, brutally beat his wife Sunita with a ‘lathi’ and later strangulated her to death, police said.

Piplani Station Officer (SO) Rajkumar Sharma said Harilal took Sunita to hospital where he told doctors she had consumed insecticide. The doctors declared her brought dead.

However, injuries on the body clearly suggested foul play. It was later found the couple had an argument in the morning after which Harilal, a labourer, beat his wife repeatedly with the lathi and later strangled her. Her ribs were broken in the attack.

Police said Sunita had received compensation meant for gas victims and this amount caused tension between the couple. Sunita had gone to her parents’ house leaving her three children behind and the couple’s 11-month-old child had died owing to sudden illness during his mother’s absence in that period.

After they started living together a few months back there were frequent altercations because Sunita used to accuse him of killing her child while Harilal would counter if she had not left the house the child would not have fallen ill at all.
The same argument led to the row today and culminated in her death, police said. The accused has been arrested.
