Building bylaws violated, says civic body
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Monday issued notices to 10 public schools in the posh Vasant Kunj locality for alleged violation of building bylaws. The civic body has asked the schools to file written replies by Thursday explaining why action should not be taken against them for carrying out illegal construction.
During a survey carried out last week, the MCD had come across massive and varied form of unauthorised construction in these schools. In Vasant Valley school, a squash court and an art and craft room have come up on the first floor which the MCD says is illegal. In GD Goenka Senior School, unauthorised constructions, according to the MCD, included a guardroom, a generator room, store room under temporary shed towards the left side boundary wall, accountant room and an office near the main building.
GD Goenka School was booked earlier by DDA for constructing some structures in the playground. The school had to subsequently remove the illegal construction on its own. In Bloom Public School, unauthorised construction includes a library, music room, sports room and a yoga room.
DAV School had a basement, a stage room and a yoga room at the rear side of the main building. After receiving their replies, the civic body will issue seven days’ notice to the defaulters asking them to remove the illegal structures on their own. If they fail to do so, the MCD will take action in accordance with the law, the officials said.
