Napier is situated on the east coast of North Island, in the picturesque Hawke's Bay - famous for its vineyards and art deco architecture.

The first Test it hosted was against Pakistan in February 1979. The batsmen dominated as the match was drawn.

McLean Park had to wait 11 years before it was given its second Test, and this time two-and-a-half days were lost to rain.

Finally, in March 1995, a positive result was achieved, though not by the home side.

In recent years, the ground has mainly been host to one-day internationals.

England played a tied match here in February 1997, with Dominic Cork and Darren Gough scrambling a bye from the last ball of the match.
