"The men died 12-14 hours before we found their bodies. We found traces of some wild fruits in the chutney they possibly consumed Sunday evening" the district's deputy superintendent of police Marion SH Nonghuloo told HT from district headquarters Khliehriat.

The police have found no evidence of any foul play. "We are awaiting the autopsy report for ascertaining the cause of death," Nonghuloo said.

The labourers, yet to be identified, were from Assam.
