According to police, a constable posted outside the house of R and B minister Syed Altaf Bukhari, has fled with two AK 47 rifles, from Sheikh Bagh in Srinagar city.

The constable has been identified as Naseer Ahmad Pandith, son of Ghulam Rasool of Kareemabad Pulwama. Confirming the incident, inspector general of police, Kashmir range, Javed Geelani said that the matter is being investigated. Naseer was recruited into police in 2007.

"The constable went missing from the minister's residence along with two AK 47 rifles and two magazines last night,'' said Geelani.

The officer, however, ruled out abduction. "It seems he has gone on his own. Abduction has been so far doesn't seem to be a possibility,'' he added.

Sources said that Naseer fled with three youths who are said to have been waiting for him in nearby locality.

Meanwhile, police have issued an alert, asking all security establishments across the Valley to remain vigilant for any possible attack.
