Minor killed after suspected rape near Vellore

An 11-year-old Class 6 student of a local school near Vellore may have become a victim of rape by unidentified men on the day the country observed the second anniversary of the December 16 gang rape case.

An 11-year-old Class 6 student of a local school near Vellore may have become a victim of rape by unidentified men on the day the country observed the second anniversary of the December 16 gang rape case.

The girl went to school on Monday and even met her elder sister after her examination. Her sister returned home but the girl failed to come back.

Her parents assumed that she had gone to a relative’s house but when she didn’t return in the evening, they mounted a search till Tuesday morning.

Her brother accidentally stumbled on her school bag at a distance of some 6km from their house. The girl’s body was found with her hands and legs tied up. Villagers informed the police. It is suspected that the girl may have been killed after being raped. But nothing can be confirmed before an autopsy, a police official said.
