The state government on Wednesday decided to implement a Rs 11.52 billion housing scheme for urban poor. Under this scheme, 50,000 houses will be constructed in Indore, 35,000 in Bhopal, 10,000 in Jabalpur, 5,000 in Ujjain and 9,300 in Gwalior.
On top of that, nine municipalities and seven towns with a population of more than 100,000 would get 500 houses each. The state government would also build 100 houses in each of its 27 district headquarters.
Officials said the state cabinet had approved the selection procedure of beneficiaries under the housing scheme for urban poor. It had also authorised the Madhya Pradesh housing board, development authorities and Jabalpur cantonment board to implement the housing scheme.
Only people domiciled in Madhya Pradesh would be eligible to get these houses, officials said.
