Sources said one Pradeep Tripathi, a resident of ADA colony, Naini, had come with cash to purchase a Hero Honda Glamour motorcycle from a showroom in Rajapur.

Who is Pradeep Tripathi? Why did he purchase the two-wheeler in the name of Ramraj, an illiterate farm labourer? How did it reach Arun Kumar alias Pintu Misra of Cholapur in Varanasi, who killed the head constable in the heart of Civil Lines in a gruesome manner.

The gory murder has shaken the faith of public at large. While prima facie all these three persons appear to be connected with each other, it is for the cops to probe the reality. It is clear that the killed outlaw Arun was a member of Varanasi's Babloo Misra gang, which is baying for the blood of Sujeet Singh of Belwa currently lodged in Naini central Jail in connection with the kidnapping of Dr Kartike Sharma. Both Sujeet and Babloo are face-to-face in a gang war following enmity between them.

Jitendra Misra, another outlaw picked up by the police from the scene of murder in an injured state has turned out to be Babloo's relative. He also carries a reward of Rs 10,000 on his head. Since Monday afternoon, he has not coughed up any vital information which can help cops in reaching the bottom. He is also taking advantage of his injuries and knows well that cops can go tough with him to only a limit.

On the other hand, DIG Akhilesh Mehrotra is convinced that there was another motorcycle with two more criminals near the one which was being driven by Jitendra Misra, the injured desperado, who was carrying the outlaw, who was later shot dead in an encounter, on the pillion.

Also, there must have been a support vehicle - a four-wheeler, said the DIG, who feels that the criminals were on the road not to kill the cop but to carry out another big crime. No doubt, they were here to look for an opportunity to bump off Sujeet but not on Monday, he said while talking to HT Allahabad Live.

When criminals from outside move on road they don't carry arms and explosives for fun, he added. He expressed hope that unfolding events could lead the police to the target they were aiming.
