THOUGH A controversy is raging over Muslim census, the district officials in Gorakhpur have started the counting of Muslim out-door and in-door patients in the district hospital.
A circular along with a proforma has been issued to all the doctors of CMO’s office to prepare the report of Muslim patients.
However, the senior officials are silent on this complex issues. Chief medical superintendent Dr SK Chaturvedi evaded a direct reply when Hindustan Times contacted him for his remarks regarding the counting. He said the proforma was not designed by him and he had no knowledge about it.
According to sources, the proforma was duly signed by the CMO on March 8, 2006 and the circular letter no Gi Chi Go/05-06 dated 4.3.06 was issued to subordinates who were asked to make a daily report of out-door patients, new patients and Hindu and Muslim patients.
Besides, they have been directed to submit a detailed report on patients coming for treatment, their stay in the hospital and the number of out-door patients, on daily basis.
In the proforma, the incharges of primary health centres and community health centres have been directed to send the report of male and female patients.
Though doctors have started filling in the required information in the proforma, they are not sure why the state government has asked them to submit such reports.
They said that patients were only patients and demarcation of Hindu and Muslim patients was not a healthy sign.
It may be noted that the Union Government has constituted Justice Sachchar Commission to prepare a report about education, social and economical backwardness of minorities and the proforma can be used to judge the status of minorities.
