THE NAXALITES late last night killed two persons at village Chikhalguda, 4 km from Konta town, and abducted six police personnel near Chintagufa in south Bastar today.

The Naxalites kidnapped six police personnel, three each belonging to the district police force (DF) and SAF by halting a bus in which they were travelling in south Bastar.

According to Dantewada SP Praveer Das, the personnel this morning left from Chintagufa for Dornapal at about 8 am but armed naxals halted the bus, identified the police personnel, forced them to alight from bus, and took them to forests.

The abducted personnel were head constables Meghnath Mankar and Mansukh Lal Bhagat, and constables Bhanu Kunjam, Bharat Kanwar, Sanatan Behra and Kamlesh. All belonged to the scheduled tribes and castes.

Bastar IGP M W Ansari, along with security personnel and NSG commandos, has flown for the spot. The police parties have launched an intensive search. He has also appealed the naxals to release the abducted personnel.
