He also found the food served to passengers by caterers to be of poor quality. Also, he was annoyed with the apathetic attitude of railway employees in displaying the current position of trains on TV screens. He was amazed to see a huge rush near the ticket counter and long queues at the reservation counter.

Vij expressed his displeasure over the poor quality of pulses served by the caterers and told the computer section incharge to display the current position of reservation and trains at the railway station. The surprise check, jointly carried out by the general manager and the assistant division railway manager, put the station staff in a tight spot.

Initially, only the ADRM was supposed to inspect the railway station, but the GM suddenly reached the station. He warned the subordinate officials to either change their style of functioning, or be ready to face stringent action. He entered into the kitchen and saw a garbage pile. He directed the officials to launch a cleanliness drive.

On finding the reservation hall waterlogged, he pulled up subordinate officials and told them to repair the leaking supply line. The GM minced no words in stating that the staff had become insensitive to inconvenience of passengers.
Vij directed the ADRM to submit a report regarding the improvement made by the station staff on sanitation work between his first inspection and the current one.

Rail traffic disrupted

MUZAFFARNGAR: Residents blocked road and rail traffic for five hours on the Delhi-Shamli section in protest against prolonged cuts. The protesters lifted the rail blockade after they were pacified by police, administration and Power Corporation officials.

The Ailum village is connected to Bhabisa and Kandhala substations. Residents of Dangrol village had snapped power lines from Bhabisa, in order to mount pressure on the officials to replace old and decaying wires. This resulted in a power cut in Ailum and a dozen villages. Under the leadership of Udaiveer singh and Ravindra Panvar, villagers blockade road traffic around 11 am. Some protesters detained the Delhi-Hardwar Passenger train.
