Expressing his views on this occasion, general secretary of the union, KL Gupta, demanded that sanitation work on contract basis should be stopped. He said five sanitation employees were promoted as chief sanitation employees in 2001 but even after six years they were not getting the promoted salaries.
Gupta said the salaries of station sanitation employees and their promotion should be handled by the MD office. Workload on the sanitation employees at railway platforms had increased but strength of employees had remained the same, which adversely affected the efficiency of the employees, he said.
Joint secretary of the union, Diwaker Mishra, said a delegation had handed over a memorandum to the chief medical director on March 8 and he had assured to resolve their problems but so far no step had been taken in this direction.
OP Mishra, SP Singh, Suraj Nath and others also expressed their views on this occasion and said the employees posted in malaria section were earlier working in one shift but now they had been divided in two shifts. Work had increased but employees number had remained same.
