NRI stakes claim to Sidhu's seat

Vikramjit Bajwa, an NRI, has sought nomination from BJP for the Amritsar seat earlier occupied by Sidhu.

Within hours of the acceptance of resignation of BJP member Navjot Sidhu as a member of the Lok Sabha by the Speaker, an NRI today sought nomination from the party for the Amritsar seat.

NRI Vikramjit Bajwa, who joined the BJP on November 11 and was made the Incharge of the party's NRI Cell, in a letter to the party President Rajnath Singh said, "I wish to offer myself to be considered as a BJP party candidate from Amritsar where Sidhu resigned."

Bajwa in his letter released to the press here added, "I will relentlessly work for the residents and make sure that nobody, including Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, make any false promises."

Sidhu had resigned after being convicted by the Punjab and Haryana High Court here last week in an 18-year old road rage case registered against him at his native place - Patiala and his resignation was accepted today by Speaker Somnath Chatterjee.
