RESIDENT OF Acharya Narendra Dev ward, Salman, says, “The nullah in Niwazganj has not been cleaned for years, so every year we are under threat of an epidemic.”
Another resident, Anwar says, “Encroachments on the nullah are at an all-time high. The corporator has done nothing to remove them and encroachers keep throwing filth inside it, which blocks the flow. Thus, the problem of water logging in the area.”
Resident of Chaupatiyan Naresh Kumar Gupta says, “The lanes are so full of filth, you can’t even walk through them while roads on the Thakurganj side are full of encroachment.”
“We are battling severe water crisis in the area. Chaupatiyan and Niwazganjganj get only one hour of water supply in the day,” complains Kaushalendra.
Vimal Sen adds: “Besides water problem, we are concerned about the poor sanitary conditions of roads and lanes.”
Replying to the charges, corporator of the ward Ram Kumar Agarwal says, “Can you recall the condition of the ward five years back? See what it looks like now! All the lanes are cemented, all the roads in good condition. I have made every effort to address the problem of the people.”
About the water crisis, he said, “I have donated my personal Indra Kuan to the administration to solve the water problem in the area. Besides, I have donated 700 square feet of my land near Shri Ram Baradari for a tube well. I have installed an overhead water tank from the MLA funds and installed 3 tubewells but yes the problem persists since the old tube wells have dried up.”
“This year, I am not contesting but I am sure the candidate contesting for the spot would get the advantage of development work done by me,” said Agarwal On why he was not given the ticket by the party this time, he said, “Ask the top leaders of the party. They must have found someone better than me.”
