District Nurses’ Association general secretary Pushpa Singh said they would be forced to go on an indefinite strike, if action was not taken against the George Town SO and other police officers who arrested Mohd Gufran, son of senior staff nurse Safia Khatun, on false charges of stealing.
The nurses would paralyse all emergency and routine services at the hospital from Friday afternoon, she said.
Safia Khatun said her son Mohd Gufran was arrested and beaten by the George Town SO and other police officers on false charges.
The incident took place on Wednesday afternoon, when he was going to pick up a sister from school.
The police snatched his driving licence and also took away Rs 5000, which was to be deposited in a bank, she said. She alleged Mohd Gufran was forced to sign a declaration that he was a member of a car-lifters’ gang. “When he refused, the police physically tortured him. However, when pressure was exerted on the police department, he was released around 3 pm.
The police also misbehaved with me and my aged mother,” she said.
