More than 57,000 candidates forfeited their deposits in the past 15 Lok Sabha polls, Election Commission of India figures show. As per guidelines by the poll panel, if a candidate fails to get a minimum of one-sixth of the total valid votes polled, the deposit goes to the treasury.
