Tennis sensation Sania Mirza, 19, who has been awarded the Padma Shri for her contribution to the game, feels proud to be the youngest recipient of India’s fourth highest civilian honour.

“I hope this will inspire me to aim for higher achievements and glory in the game,” said Sania. “I consider this as yet another New Year gift,” said Sania, who had a highly successful run in the international tennis circuit last year.



English-Tamil dictionaries for kids

Students of hostels set up by the Backward Classes, Adi Dravidar welfare and Most Backward Classes welfare departments in Tamil Nadu, from classes six to plus two, would all be provided with an English-Tamil dictionaries, enabling them to enrich their knowledge of English, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa said in Chennai.

They would also be given an atlas each, she said while making a suo mato statement in the state assembly. The government would incur an expenditure of Rs 2.17 crore per annum, benefiting 1.24 lakh students, she said.
