Pakistani troops resorted to heavy mortar shelling in Noushera sector of Jammu and Kashmir since Friday night, official sources said on Satrurday.

Pakistani troops initially resorted to mortar shelling in Jhangar area of Rajouri district for an hour around midnight on Friday, which was resumed again for an hour on Saturday morning, they said.

Indian troops retaliated, the sources said adding there was no loss of life or damage on the Indian side.

The shelling by Pakistani troops was a cover for infiltrating terrorists, they said adding intelligence reports had indicated that a group of about 15 foreign mercenaries have already infiltrated into Rajouri district with an objective of targeting newly elected MLAs.

There were also intermittent exchange of small arms firing between the two sides along International Border (IB) in Budhwar and Pindi area of RS Pura sector Friday night.

Meanwhile, a farmer was seriously injured in a mine blast in DhagChani in RS Pura sector Friday evening, sources said.
