Pakistan violates ceasefire in Akhnoor sector

Pakistan rangers fired mortar shells along the international border in Pallanwala area of Akhnoor sector on Saturday morning. BSF officials said that the Pakistan rangers started unprovoked firing with the small arms at about 10.40 am.

Pakistan Rangers fired mortar shells along the border in the Pallanwala area of Akhnoor sector on Saturday morning.

According to Border Security Force (BSF) officials, the Rangers started unprovoked firing first with small arms at 10.40am. “Pakistan went on to fire some mortar shells. The BSF personnel posted at forward posts retaliated. The firing stopped at 11.40am,” said a BSF official.

According to unconfirmed reports, BSF personnel defused a bomb in the area, which the Pakistan Rangers mistook as firing by the BSF.

On Thursday, India and Pakistan exchanged heavy fire along the Line of Control in the Baloni area of Krishna Ghati sector in Poonch district, where an army jawan had died in Pakistan firing on Wednesday night. Defence sources said Pakistan also fired mortar shells on Eid recently in the Shahpur area of Poonch, leaving five people injured.
