Pandey murder: Mass protest at Collectorate

HUNDREDS OF people, including workers of various private factories and government departments, staged a demonstration on the Collectorate campus here to protest against murder of Amrendra Pandey, president of Triveni Sheet Glass Factory Union, Ghoorpur. HUNDREDS OF people, including workers of various private factories and government departments, staged a demonstration on the Collectorate campus here to protest against murder of Amrendra Pandey, president of Triveni Sheet Glass Factory Union, Ghoorpur. Pandey was shot dead by unidentified assailants on March 24.

The agitating people were led by leaders from different employees’ unions and political parties. Addressing the meeting, they expressed their resolve that till the district magistrate himself arrived to receive their memorandum they would not leave the campus.

Ultimately, district magistrate Amrit Abhijat reached the rally site and received the memorandum from Virendra Singh, secretary of the glass factory employees’ body. The DM assured that the main accused in the murder case would soon be arrested and he would take positive steps to fulfill other demands in this connection.

The workers were demanding immediate arrest of JK Agrawal, managing director of the factory and the assailants, CBI inquiry into the incident and compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the kin of the deceased. They also demanded security for family members of the slain employee leader and witnesses of the incident.

Addressing a meeting on the occasion, the speakers threatened to take out a torchlight procession on April 12 if their demands were not accepted within 15 days.

The meeting was presided over by Harishchandra Dwivedi and conducted by Sudhir Singh of Democratic Youth Federation of India .

Prominent speakers included Hemlata, Daulat Ram, former MLA Anugrah Narain Singh, Congress leader Shekhar Bahuguna, Ambika Misra, KS Srivastava, TP Misra, Ram Sajivan Shukla, Shiv Ram Shukla, Anurag Tiwari, Bajrangbali Giri, Anil Verma, Kadedeen Yadav, SP Singh, Rajesh Singh, Suresh Yadav, Kamlesh Singh Shiv Sewak Singh, Nayan Srivastava and SP Pandey.
