Former Pakistan captain Waqar Younis would be the national bowling coach, according to a news report on Tuesday.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to appoint Younis as the bowling coach and utilise his experience and expertise before the Sri Lanka tour starting from March 13.

Besides, they have decided to appoint former cricketer Zaheer Abbas as manager of the team.

"All the indications are that PCB Chairman Shaharyar Khan and Director Cricket Operations Saleem Altaf had reached a consensus on appointing Abbas as manager and Younis as the bowling coach," a PCB source was quoted as saying by 'The News'.

Younis is believed to have the support of Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq.

"Younis's appointment is also being backed by Inzamam who feels that with young bowlers coming into the national side, the former pacer can play a big role in their development at the top level," it said.

However, the bowling coach issue may come up before the ad-hoc committee later this month.

"Some discussion is still on Younis, particularly about his tenure. The bowling coach issue might be put before PCB's ad-hoc committee at its meeting on March 28," the source added.
