This follows an undertaking given last year during the hearing of a PIL to the court by the government that it will implement the 22.5 per cent reservation for SC/ST students in the central quota from the next academic year. The petition had challenged the bulletin issued by Delhi University, which calculated the 22.5 per cent quota for SC/ST candidates after deducting 50 per cent seats for the central quota.

The Centre and states share the seats in the proportion of 50:50 and as per the existing system reservation was provided only under the state quota.
