Though, the IIM-L community would come out with facts and figures about how its students fared in the placements this year on Friday, news trickling in from the campus suggests that IIM-L grads here have fared brilliantly as well.
On Thursday the IIM-L placement team was busy collating data about how the postgraduate programme (PGP) II students had fared. The data would be shared with the media on Friday. Immediately after the placements were over, the IIM-L students celebrated the occasion.
The placement team of IIM-L had worked overtime in ensuring that the placements took place without any problems.
Several stalls were set up just outside the PGP block by the students to manage the entire activity. Right from keeping track of which student preferred which company to keeping stock of the deadlines, allowing students to place their dreams (each student participating in the placement process gets to place three dreams. This means that each student can actually choose between three companies before finally clinching the deal with his/her prospective employer) the “place com” team worked round the clock. Assisting them in the activity was Prof Pankaj, chairman, Placements, IIM-L. Each year, the placements at IIM are bigger and better than before. This year is expected to be no different with globally reputed companies making a beeline to the campus.
The IIM campus was ‘out of bounds’ for media persons for the last few days during the placement process. This was with a reason. The IIM community, like always, was wary of placement details coming out in the media even when the placement exercise was on. This is the standard practice across all IIMs.
A senior professor said that during the placements nobody has the exact data to share with the media. “Even if one has, it only leads to confusion. Thus the standard practice is to share details of the placements only after the placement exercise is over,” a professor said. Interestingly, the flowers are blooming all around the IIM campus these days.
The bloom couldn’t have been better timed.
