The Delhi High Court will consider on January 23 a petition seeking registration of an FIR against the Congress and Reliance Industries Ltd as they had been mentioned as non-contractual beneficiaries in the Volcker Committee report on Iraqi oil-payoffs.

The petition, filed by a journalist Sunil Tripathi through counsel Arvind Singh, alleged that efforts were being made to hush up the involvement of both the Congress and Reliance Industries, although action had been taken against the then External Affairs Minister K Natwar Singh based on the same report.

Besides registration of an FIR, the petitioner wanted the Justice Pathak Committee to probe the involvement of the Congress and the oil company in the alleged affair.

A Division Bench of Justice Vijender Jain and Justice Rekha Sharma, which took up the petition, asked the counsel to file an affidavit and posted the matter for January 23.
