PM pays obeisance at Golden Temple

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday paid obeisance in the sanctum sanctorum of the Harimandhar Sahib (Golden Temple) in amidst extraordinarily tight security cover.

The Prime Minister was given a siropa (robe of honour) inside the sanctum sanctorum by the priest of the Golden Temple after which he listened to religious hymns and spent nearly half an hour at the Temple.

Singh was accompanied by SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar, Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and local administration officials while a large posse of officials from the state police and NSG were deployed for his security.

Jatehdar Akal Takht (highest Sikh Temporal Seat) Gyani Joginder Singh Vedanti was also present when Singh paid his obeisance.

Singh, who arrived in the holy city last night, is scheduled to address public gathering on Wenesday.
