A police constable committed suicide in Panaji by hanging himself allegedly due to "family tension", police said on Sunday.

32-year-old Rupesh Volvoikar, attached to Porvorim police station, ended his life by hanging himself on Saturday in his house, they said.

A suicide note found in his house said that he was forced to take extreme steps because of `family tensions.'

"He was apparently disturbed with the family tensions. We are still investigating the reasons behind his death," police said.
