Acting on a tip-off that the two men could have escaped to their hometown in Jharkhand, a police team was dispatched on Friday. “They have not yet returned but we are certain that the duo is in Jharkhand,” said Senior Police Inspector Madhukar Chaudhari.

The two accused were working as cobblers and had been staying near the victim's house for two years. They often went to the victim's house and were well acquainted with her family. The victim is a mother of two children.

When on June 11 the duo invited the victim to have soft drink with them, she unsuspectingly accompanied them. The duo reportedly spiked the victim’s drink with alcohol. After the victim consumed the drink she started feeling dizzy and was reportedly taken to an unoccupied shanty in their locality. The two men raped her, after which they fled from the spot and have been on the run since then.
