Police-naxals encounter in Gadchiroli, no casualties
The security forces and naxalites of CPI (Maoist) were pitted in a furious armed exchange of fire in the dense forests of Damrancha in Aheri tehsil of Gadchiroli, bordering Andhra Pradesh, some 300 km from Nagpur in the eastern part of Maharashtra, since early Monday morning.

According to reports, no casualties from either side have been reported.
The incident happened when the special security forces, comprising the C-60 commandos and local police were carrying out a joint combing operation to flush out naxalites in Damrancha forest this morning.

It was during this operation when the forces made inroads into the jungles that a visibly wary naxals waiting in the thick jungles laid siege and ambushed the police. The security forces returned fire and after a while forced the ultra-leftists to retreat. The gun battle lasted for over an hour.
Gadchiroli police control room informed that additional forces have been sent the area to track down the Maoists.
