NSUI leaders, including Arun Hingankar and Vivek Khandelwal, had announced that they would hold a demonstration in front of the SP office and present police with bangles to protest against what they called the weak-kneed attitude of the police when confronting members of the saffron brigade.

The police were present in full force at the Regal Crossing since morning. As a preemptive move, they picked up Arun Hingankar from his house in Juni Indore area and Vivek Khandelwal was picked up from his house in the Central Kotwali area.

A few other leaders and their supporters gathered and were going towards the SP office from the Shastri Bridge when police arrested Raju Kuwal, Vinod Chokse, Nilesh Patel and Lokesh Sharma. All of them were booked under Section 151 of the IPC and sent to jail.
