This the second constituency in the State where polling will now be conducted on May 23 instead of the scheduled May 16. Earlier polling was deferred in Arvakurichi constituency.
The orders were issued late on Sunday after EC reported seizure of large sums of cash and reports about large-scale distribution of money to voters.
“The polling in the constituency has been deferred so that the vitiating effect of the money power created by the distribution of money and gifts to electors loses its intensity and a more congenial atmosphere conducive to the conduct of free and fair election is created,” EC said in a statement .
