Polling underway in UP

Over 2.48 crore voters will be exercising their franchise in this final leg of polling to decide the electoral fortunes of 285 candidates.

Polling for the last phase of election to 18 Lok Sabha seats of Uttar Pradesh began this morning on a peaceful note.

Over 2.48 crore voters will be exercising their franchise in this final leg of polling to decide the electoral fortunes of 285 candidates, including RLD President Ajit Singh, former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh, Union Minister Santosh Gangwar and cine star Jaya Prada.

Official sources said elaborate security arrangements have been made to conduct the polls in a free, fair and peaceful manner. Extensive videography has been ordered in Badaun, Bulandshahr, Baghpat, Meerut and Sambhal seats and police deployed at all the sensitive polling stations.

The Election Commission has already posted three DIG rank officials in Sambhal, Baghpat, Muzaffarnagar, Kairana, Bulandshahr and Badaun to monitor the law and order situation and ensure smooth conduct of the polls.
