The resignations came as Civil Court lawyers took out a procession and staged demonstrations against office- bearers of the Civil Court Bar Association.

BJP MP Yogi Adityanath, former Samajwadi Party MLC Devendra Pratap Singh and local MLA Dr RMD Agrawal reached the Civil Court to take stock of the situation. They faced lawyers’ anger over the incident.

An emergency meeting of the Civil Court Bar Association was convened on Monday. It was chaired by Suresh Kumar Shukla.

Association members expressed grief over the incident and demanded Rs 5 lakh compensation for family members of the deceased.

Shukla informed the members that he had raised objections to use of sub-standard material. But, State Construction Corporation project manager SA Haider said it was the responsibility of the district magistrate to look into the quality of work.

Some blamed the corporation for the incident and said even the district judge had directed the project manager to maintain quality.

The Bar Association condemned politicisation of the issue by a group of lawyers and demanded a CBI inquiry.

Terming the incident as unfortunate, former Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh vice-chairman Indu Bhushan Srivastav said the lawyers’ anger was justified. He said the project manager should be punished for negligence.

Probe panel
DISTRICT MAGISTRATE Dr Hariom said a two- member committee had been constituted to probe the collapse of a porch at the under construction Lawyers’ Chambers at the Civil Court Bar Association. He said RP Singh of the Rural Engineering Services and City Magistrate Anil Kumar would be members of the inquiry committee. The DM said that the incident looked to be the result of human failure. He said the administration could not compensate the kin of labourers, as they were residents of another district.
