Preity Zinta chills out post IPL
After the IPL matches, Preity Zinta is in no mood to shoot for movies for some time. So it’s world concert tour time. Here’s the actress fielding questions from Hiren Kotwani.Updated: Jun 18, 2008 19:35 IST
After the IPL matches, she believes she would go bonkers if she went right into a movie shot. So, it’s world concert tour time.. and a look back at what went right and what went kinda wrong with her team Kings XI Punjab. Here’s Preity Zinta fielding questions from Hiren Kotwani.
How did you boost your team’s morale after a slowstart?
I knew that I’m the producer and Tom Moody is the director.
Often films have collapsed because the director is weaker than the producer.
We didn’t interfere in each other’s zone. Tom is one of the most accomplished coaches ever. The credit for the team scoring well goes to Tom. And of course to Ness, he’s always been the proverbial pillar of strength. <b1>
There were some potshots against Yuvraj Singh and other players on the website of Kolkata Knight Riders.
I didn’t see that. Shah Rukh is a very good friend. I don’t think he would have personally supervised what went on the website. I look up to him and have no issues with him at all.
But there must have been an undercurrent of rivalry when your teams played each other.
Our teams played against each other twice, and won a game each. So that evened out.
How much did your understanding of cricket evolve beyond sixers and fours?
Sixers and boundaries are the most important aspects of T20 cricket. I’ve learnt a lot more about the game.. like the condition of the pitch, the weather conditions, the dew, the toss, batting or fielding first, setting targets and chasing them. I haven’t become a pro though, I still have a long way to go.
Will you set everything aside for IPL in the future?
Of course, it will always be my big summer summer movie. The level of excitement is like when you’re a part of your school team. Besides it’s not like a film for which you work for 100 days and wait three months for the results to be out. IPL is instant
.. you hit the ball, you score a four or a six.. you miss and you’re out.
The first IPL series will also be remembered for the Harbhajan Singh-Sreesanth Slapgate controversy.
That’s so far back and forgotten. <b2>
Some of your teamplayers, it is said, were shunted out of their hotel rooms to accommodate your guests.
That’s the oldest story in IPL history. Sachin Tendulkar, Saurav Ganguly, GlenMcGrath, Jayasurya can stay in a certain hotel.. so can everyone else. Despite 16 players in the team, ours was the only franchise with 11 more players. No one talks about the boys going back with the experience of training with Brett Lee. No one gives us credit where it’s due. No one says anything about how badly other cricketers were treated. Just because I’m from the film industry, there’s criticism.
How come you’re taking off on a world concert tour now?
Because of the Bachchans. Shiamak Davar is choregraphing my act, so it’s a newzone forme. After the exertions of IPL, if I’d gone into another movie, I’d probably have had a nervous breakdown. The shows will be on the weekends, so I’ll be chilling out four days a week.
Aren’t you apprehensive about being sidelined at the tour?
No. I’ve been told about the concept.
The Last Learwas supposed to release in April.. why has it been delayed again and again?
I don’t have a clue, ask the producer.
You play a bad actress in the film.. that must have been a tough call for a good actress.
Thanks for the compliment. Rituda (Rituparno Ghosh) wanted me to come to the sets unprepared.. the idea was to walk a different path without putting any effort.
The response has been mixed.. the buzz is that it’s slow.
If anyone finds it slow, then he can run around the theatres, ha ha! But seriously, I disagree. I’m sure the film will find its audience.
There have been some reports about bad vibes with Shiney Ahuja during the shoot of
Let me just say that Shiney and I didn’t become the greatest friends on earth. We worked as co-stars, did what we had to, and finished the job.
You had taken up the cleanliness drive in Bombay. Now that the first downpours have exposed that the city’s authorities are still unprepared, what’s your take?
I was out of town, I haven’t been stuck anywhere so far. I haven’t seen the effects of the first bouts of rainfall, but I hope there’s no flooding. I don’t understand Mumbai. During the IPL, I saw that the roads in Delhi, Jaipur, even Mohali are broad. Why doesn’t Bombay have good roads? There are slums on the footpath, spilling on the road. If there’s an accident, people just take the pants off the driver.
Tell me, isn’t your family concerned about your marriage?
No, not yet, they aren’t?
And what about Ness Wadia?
You’ll obviously know as and when that happens.
