Premchand?s Nirmala comes alive on stage

NIRMALA, A drama based on the story of legendary author Munshi Premchand, show-cased the inner struggle of a 16-year old girl, at DLW auditorium here on Tuesday evening. Artistes of a theatre group of New Delhi, `Steps for Change? exhibited how a teenaged girl faces several challenges after the demise of her father. The story was woven around the life of 16-year old Nirmala, whose father Udaybhan passes away after fixing her marriage in a prosperous family.

Later, Nirmala is married to an elderly person due to some financial crisis. After getting married to a person old enough to be her father, Nirmala faces several problems. Rukmini, her widow sister-in-law, taunts Nirmala. Nirmala, is stunned when she comes to know that her husband doubts her relations with his son Mansharam. The artistes played the characters of Nirmala, Udaybhan, Budha, Rukmini and Mansharam in an impressive manner.

Kamal Naam Ka: In a bid to make people aware about purity of silk and importance of Silk Mark, the Silk Mark Organization of India (sponsored by Central Silk Board under Union Ministry of Textile) organised a street play ‘Kamal Naam Ka’ at DrRajendra Prasad Ghat in Varanasi on Tuesday evening. Artistes of Prateek Sanstha staged the play telling the audience about Silk Mark and purity of silk in an interesting manner.

Din Sham Ko: Hindi adaptation of Tennessee William’s play ‘The Glass Menagerie’, ‘Ek Din Sham Ko’ will be staged at Vasanta College for Women in Rajghat area on October 27.
