Power supply to the entire city was snapped at 7 am and restored only at 3 pm. In several areas of the city power crisis continued till late in the evening.

However, there was no night rostering.

The situation was more acute in southern areas of the city. Almost the entire south city reeled under power crisis due to local faults and overloading. Some areas of the south city also faced night rostering due to local faults at the level of substations. Prominent areas of the south city that reeled under power crisis included Saket Nagar, Kidwai Nagar, Govind Nagar, Barra, Naubasta, Juhi, Baradevi, Ratan Lal Nagar and Jawahar Nagar along with several other areas.

Low voltage problem was also reported from several areas of the south city.

Sources said the dismal power scenario in the southern areas could be expected to improve to some extent only after the up-gradation of Naubasta 33 kv grid substation. In order to further strengthen the power distribution system of the south city about 250 transformers would be installed.

Another reason for prolonged power crisis in south city is undue delay in attending of local faults by the gang-men. At times it takes more than 24 hours for KESCo officials to repair a fault.
