As the unscheduled power cuts have become a routine feature at night , the traders under the banner of Bhelupur Vyapar Mandal and Bharatiya Janata Party activists under the leadership of Ravindra Jaiswal took out a torch procession from separate places and reached the residence of the general manager of Purvanchal Power Distribution Corporation in Bhikharipur on Saturday night.
The agitators were beating drums, dhol and manjira. A piquant situation prevailed here at the officers’ colony at Bhikaripur when the protesters beat drums, dhol, manjira and recited Hanuman Chalisa as part of their agitation.
The procession of the BJP activists was taken out from Nati Imali . Police also resorted to minor lathicharge on the BJP activists when they tried to enter the officers’ colony forcibly.
The protest of the BJP activists continued till late night. Prominent among those who participated in the demonstration were Ram Darash Mishra, Kashinath Akela, Laxman Jaiswal, Virendra Pratap Singh, Satish Jaiswal, Vijay Verma, Hemant Singh and Nandlal etc.
A large number of traders of different trade organisations including Durgakund, Bhelupur, Lanka, Kamachcha, Girjaghar, Sigra, Khojwa, Nawabganj, Gurudham, Bhadani Vayapar Mandal and Varanasi Parchon Grill Association took out a procession from Bhelupur area under the leadership of Santosh Ojha and reached the Bhikharipur -based officers’ colony.
Prominent traders who participated in demonstration included Ved Prakash Singh, Ashok Jain, Ram Bharat Ojha, Mohan Bhadur Jain and Anil Gupta .
It may be mentioned that scheduled and unscheduled power cuts along with frequent fluctuation in voltage have rendered life miserable for the citizens.
The city gets hardly 8 to 10 hour power supply which also has hampers water supply.
