PTU promoting technical education in State

Dean, Distance Education Programme, PTU, Dr RP Singh, was the chief guest while manager of LD College, Neeraj Agarwal, was the convenor of the seminar.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Singh said that India was competing with globalisation and must develop education system for the masses. PTU aimed to promote technical education in the State at diploma, degree and postgraduate degree level.

About 141 institutions offering courses under engineering, management pharmacy, hotel management, architecture and other streams, were affiliated to PTU, he said. It had 14 regional centres offering postgraduate courses and had established a centre of excellence in entrepreneurship.

Dr Singh further said that presently PTU had almost 35000 students enrolled in more than 60 course under distance education stream in over 450 learning centres across the country. The university had set-up more than 450 state-of-art learning centres equipped with modern facilities in Punjab and other states of India.

Presiding over the seminar, Anand Agarwal said conventional degrees were of little use today while technically trained manpower was most sought after. All students passing XII can not be accommodated in government aided engineering, medical or technical institutes.

PTU provided opportunity to the students who either did not get admission or had limitation of time and money.

Lavni Srivastava, partner in media course, discussed the possibilities after doing the BSc, media, journalism and advertisement courses. Those present on the occasion included Dr AK Shukla from IERT, renowned academicians and staff of LD College including business development manager Manoj Verma, Vikram Singh and Pradeep Verma among others.
