Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s daughter Daman Singh has said it was “upsetting” that public opinion had turned against her father towards the end of his 10-year stint as PM. She said that though he had worked hard, he was underappreciated.
In an interview with Karan Thapar on Headlines Today’s ‘Nothing but the Truth’ programme, she said the public opinion was “transient”.
Daman, who penned her parent’s biography ‘Strictly Personal: Manmohan and Gursharan’, said her father enjoyed talking to the media when he was the finance minister but things have changed.
“He has not changed. It is the media that has changed. I think in those days, the media was more interested in serious issues and I think it was also much more capable of understanding serious issues,” she said
Asked how Singh would have felt when Congress president Sonia Gandhi refused to take over and selected him to be the PM, Daman said: “It was a massive, massive challenge. I think he saw it as an honour and a privilege.”
