Vishwanath told in Bangalore that Dravid's selection as the captain was not surprising as he had already discharged that role previously as well (whenever Sourav Ganguly was unavailable)."

"(So) it was always on the cards; he will do a good job."

Former medium pacer B K Venkatesh Prasad said Dravid should be tried out in the role in a "couple of more series".

Prasad said the appointment had "relieved" a lot of tension in Dravid. "The selectors should try him out in a couple of more series (in addition to the Sri Lanka tri-series)."

Describing Dravid as one who was committed and dedicated, he said the Bangalorean led by example and set standard for others.

Prasad said he did not believe that the additional pressure of captaincy would come in the way of Dravid continuing his good run with the bat.

"He (Dravid) has led the side in the past and he has done pretty well," he said.
