Rai expelled from SDF
GM Rai, a founder member of the party, has been expelled from the party.
The ruling Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) has expelled G M Rai, a founder member of the party, due to anti-party activities.
The expulsion order of Rai from the primary membership of SDF was issued to him by the party high command on Thursday, SDF sources said here on Friday.
Rai had earned the wrath of party bosses ever since he started floated the Gorkha Apex Committee (GAC) last year and started raising issues of the rights of the Gorkhas in Sikkim under its banner.
He had been served a show cause notice for alleged anti-party activities over a fortnight ago and asked to respond to it within a week.
However, Rai never accepted that he had received any show-cause notice let alone responding to it.
Miffed at the SDF denying him a ticket from Central Pendam assembly seat, Rai formed a party of his own on Wednesday, a day after the SDF announced P S Gholey as its nominee from the seat.
When contacted, Rai said as his party was not registered with the Election Commission, he would enter the poll fray from Central Pendam as an independent and also field candidates from at least 22 seats.
