Railway stations to get cyber cafes, ATMs

Declaring 2006 as the year of passenger service with a smile, Railway Minister Lalu Prasad on Friday unveiled a series of traveller-friendly measures like the introduction of cyber cafes and ATMs at more stations.

"Modern facilities like cyber cafes and ATMs will be provided at all major stations," he said in his budget for 2006-07.

Lalu Prasad also pointed out that charges on tickets bought on the Internet would be lowered. Henceforth, e-tickets can also be purchased through travel agents approved by Indian Railways.

Two hundred automatic ticket vending machines will be installed in the Mumbai suburban area. "This will enable a large number of travellers to conveniently purchase tickets," Lalu Prasad said.
