On the Philippe-Chatrier Centre court, 2001 champion Jennifer Capriati, the seventh seed, was to open up against Serena Williams, the second seed and 2002 champion.
That was to be followed by French third seed Amelie Mauresmo against Elena Dementieva of Russia with Britain's Tim Henman kicking off the mens' quarter-finals against Argentina's Juan Ignacio Chela.
On the Suzanne Lenglen court, Paola Suarez of Argentina was to play Maria Sharapova of Russia followed by compatriot Anastasia Myskina up against Venus Williams of the US.
Carlos Moya, the 1998 men's champion, was due to close proceedings against Argentina's Guillermo Coria.
