Issuing a press release from Dhanora in north Gadchiroli district, Maharashtra spokesman Ratan alleged the Ghandy was kept in illegal detention for four days in Delhi before police recorded his arrest on September 21 and was “inhumanly” tortured by the Delhi police.

The police have been harassing and torturing him to eliminate the Maoist ideologue and if the state power tries to fulfil its “design”, it should also be ready to face the consequences, Ratan warned. “The government should immediately stop harassing and torturing him and provide all necessary treatment to the ailing leader,” the press release said.

Gandy has been instrumental in shaping up the ideological and military course of action of the left-wing extremist organisation. Seen as the key intellectual face of the Maoist group, Ghandy was in charge of its publication division.
