With a controversy raging on the reservation issue, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Saturday played safe maintaining that it was a "complex matter" in which both the proponents and opponents have "valid points".

"It is a very complex issue. Both sides have valid points", he told reporters when asked for his views in the matter which has agitated upper caste students and wanted to know whether he would hold talks with them.

Against the backdrop of conflicting stands of two Union Ministers -- Arjun Singh and Kapil Sibal -- and the AICC also made a tightrope walking on the issue.

The party had said on Friday that it was against any confrontation between sections of society and was for ensuring social justice as also rights of all.
