Satish Kumar’s note on retiring from the editorial post had mentioned that the HT has a history of 80 years and had many illustrious editors. Yes, I remember during 1944 or so, when the war was on and the India's independence movement was being fought simultaneously, my father used to read the HT. At that time, Dev Das Gandhi, the elder son of Mahatma Gandhi, used to be the editor of the paper. In his editorial he used to comment on and criticise the policies of the British government as well as of his father and the Indian Congress. That was truly a daring and bold step. It would be good to see this again in the HT.
