It all began after the said sub-inspector went to the house of Ghanshyam Misra resident of Chamethu village. Ghanshyam had been involved in a row with his neighbour Ashok Prajapati over some issue. It is alleged that the sub inspector slapped Ghanshyam Misra’s 80 year old mother during discussions which had turned sour. The old lady reportedly died due to heart attack caused by the slap.

Meanwhile, tension prevails in the village where police men from five police stations were reported to have been sent to keep vigil in a bid to scuttle any move of the villagers to create disturbance. The villagers, it may be mentioned, gheraoed the police station last night after the incident.

On the other hand, sources said the sub-inspector had not slapped the old woman and that she died due to heart attack during the heated exchange of words and that her family members were attributing her death to the slap.

Police sources said, law will proceed against the sub-inspector only after it was proved that the death had been caused due to the slap. Otherwise, the case against the sub-inspector would be expunged, they said.

Mysterious death: Mystery shrouds the death of Vimla Devi who succumbed to burn injuries at the Colvin hospital in the city last night. Residents of Nasirpurdargahi village under Nawabganj police station said Vimla Devi was married to Rohit Kumar about a year and a half ago. This was her second marriage.

She has left behind a girl child aged about one year.

Sources said, the portion of the house in which she was living with her husband caught fire and was reduced to ashes. Her daughter was with her in-laws in the same house when the incident took place. The room in which the incident took place was reportedly bolted from outside. This raised doubts over the intentions of her husband. However, Vimla’s parents were yet to lodge any complaint with the police.
