Salem admits role in builder Jain's murder
According to sources, the underworld don acted on the instructions of Dawood's brother, Anees Ibrahim.
Extradited gangster Abu Salem, who is in the custody of Mumbai police in connection with the murder of builder Pradeep Jain, has confessed his role in the case, police said on Tuesday.
Salem confessed that he acted on the instructions of Dawood's brother, Anees Ibrahim, police added.
The don, who is currently being questioned by the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of Mumbai police in connection with the 1995 murder of Jain, reportedly expressed his desire to ATS officials to make the confession in the case on Monday.
Salem was then directed to a senior officer, who was competent enough to record his statement since the case was registered under the Terrorist and Disruptive (Prevention) Act, police said.
Joint Police Commissioner (ATS) PS Raghuvanshi informed a news agency that Salem recorded his confession on Monday in front of competent officers which would be forwarded to the special TADA court hearing the case.
The contents of the confession were not known and would be learnt only when it reaches the designated court, he added.
This is Salem's second confession to the police since he was extradited from Portugal in November last year. He had earlier confessed his role in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts.
