SC for new panel on toxic tub

Decommissioned French warship Le Clemenceau will stay off Indian waters for now. The Supreme Court on Monday reaffirmed its earlier order that the ship would not enter India's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), spreading 220 nautical miles into the sea off the coast.

Decommissioned French warship Le Clemenceau will stay off Indian waters for now. The Supreme Court on Monday reaffirmed its earlier order that the ship would not enter India's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), spreading 220 nautical miles into the sea off the coast.

While reaffirming its order, an apex court bench, seized of a PIL challenging the ship's proposed entry into India also sought to create a fresh panel of experts in construction and breaking of ships to look into the threat posed from the presence of hazardous wastes onboard the ship.
