Separatists put under house arrest

Fearing post-Friday prayer protests over killings of civilians, the authorities have placed separatists under house arrest. Moderate Hurriyat chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was disallowed to move out of his Srinagar residence by the police.

Fearing post-Friday prayer protests over killings of civilians, the authorities have placed separatists under house arrest.

Moderate Hurriyat chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was disallowed to move out of his Srinagar residence by the police.

The Mirwaiz was scheduled to address a party meeting at Mirwaiz Manzil Rajouri Kadel, after the prayers. "Mirawiz sahab has been put under house arrest,"said media advisor to Hurriyat (M), Shahid-ul-Islam.

Hardline Hurriyat chairman Syed Ali Geelani reportedly is also under house arrest. Geelani has called for protests after the Friday prayers against the civilian killings in Sumbal, Bandipora district.

Two youths were killed during an army operation. While one was killed before sunrise, another youth was killed when army opened fire on protesters.
